Paul A. Worlock 1931 - 2017
ROME - Paul A. Worlock, age 85, a prominent Rome attorney, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2017, with his loving family at his side.
He was born September 21, 1931, in Rome, a son of the late Lyle F. and Angeline McMullen Worlock. He graduated from Saint Aloysius Academy, LeMoyne College, and earned a Law Degree at Fordham Law School. He was married to the former Ann F. Allison, until her death in 1962. Paul later married the former Ines Traversa on May 18, 1963, in St. Mary of Mt Carmel Church in Utica. He served as an attorney in Rome for over 50 years. He served for a time as Chief Social Services Attorney for Oneida County. He was elected to the New York State Assembly from 1960-1966 and, at one point, was Majority Whip. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1955-57, where he was assigned to the Counter Intelligence Corps at Fort Myer, Arlington, VA.
He was a communicant, lector, Eucharistic minister, catechist, usher, lay reader, choir member, former trustee and parish council member of St. Mary's/St. Peter's Parish and served as a regional area chairperson, Syracuse Diocese Hope Appeal, and a representative to the Eastern Regional Pastoral Council for the Diocese of Syracuse.
Paul was a member of the American, New York State, Oneida County, and Rome City Bar Associations, serving as Oneida County Bar Association Director, Vice Chairman Family Law Section, and member of the Grievance and Judiciary Committees. He also served as Director, Vice President, and President of the Rome City Bar Association over the course of his career. Paul was honored by the Oneida County Bar Association in 2010 with the Hugh R. Jones Award, the highest honor bestowed by that Bar Association.
Paul was a trustee emeritus of Mohawk Valley Community College, and Vice President and member of the Mohawk Valley Community College Dormitory Corporation. He served as Director of the Central NY Eye Bank and Research Corporation, was a former Director of the Rome Senior Citizens Council, former Director of the Oneida County Unit of the American Cancer Society, and Director of the Rome Area Chamber of Commerce. He also served as a Director of the Boy Scouts of America, Iroquois Council.
He was a member of Lions Club International of Rome for more than 50 years, having served as a President, Vice President and Director. He was recognized with the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, the highest honor bestowed on a Lion for his service to the community.
Paul served as a past member of Rome United Way, a member of the National Board of Governors, LeMoyne College, Lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, member of Rome City School District Title I PAC. He served as Director of Rome Catholic Social Services Advisory Board.
Paul was a member of the Fordham University School of Law Alumni Association and the Alumni Association of LeMoyne College.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Ines; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jane Ann Worlock and Robert R. Romaker, of Loudonville, NY, Donna and Richard Bertrand, of Kinderhook, NY, and Paula and David Dewey, of Sidney, NY; grandchildren, Sean, Ian, David, Matthew, Emma, Kristen, Joseph Paul (JP), Lauren and Anna; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Dorothy Boyle, Marie Griffith and Rosemary Kaier, and two brothers, Ralph and William Worlock.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:15 AM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Philip A. Hearn at St. Peter's Church at 11:00 AM. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Monday, 4 to 7 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's/St. Peter's Parish Memorial Fund or the charity of your choice.
