John "Jack" M. Heneka
Poughkeepsie
John "Jack" M. Heneka, 79, of the Town of Poughkeepsie passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2010, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. A 30 year Poughkeepsie resident, he moved to Calabash, NC, in 1995 and moved back to Poughkeepsie in 2006. He had also resided in Utica, NY. He was employed as a System Tech for AT&T, retiring in October 1990. He was a member of the Shallotte, NC, Knights of Columbus #9639, a past member of the Poughkeepsie Elks BPOE #275, and a life member of the Red Oaks Mills Fire Dept., Arlington Station 3, where he served as past president and captain. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree, in Wilmington, NC. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Poughkeepsie. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-56, serving in Germany. Born in Utica, NY, on January 31, 1931, he was the son of Walter H. and Leona McBride Heneka. He attended Utica Catholic Academy and Mohawk Valley Tech School. On September 5, 1959, in Utica, NY, he married Suzanne Hapgood. Mrs. Heneka survives at home. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Gregory J. Heneka, of Poughkeepsie, and David J. Heneka and his fiancee, Rae Galioto, of Wappingers Falls; his son and daughter-in-law, Matthew J. and Shauna Heneka, of Poughkeepsie; his daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and James Roger, of Poughkeepsie; his brother and sister-in-law, William and Patricia Heneka, of Utica; and a sister, Ann Heneka, also of Utica. Survivors also include his grandchildren, Richard, Robert and Thomas Montross, Kayla Roger, John Ronan Heneka and Keagan Heneka. The family would like to thank the staff of Vassar Brothers Medical Center, 4th Floor Respiratory Unit, and also the staff of the Dyson Center. Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 16, 2010, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Poughkeepsie. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Jack Heneka for the Restoration of Truck One, c/o Arlington Fire District, 11 Burnett Blvd., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
