Elbert L. Powell Jr.

Elbert L. Powell Jr. passed away on January 24, 2026, in Poughkeepsie, New York, at the age of 63. Born on September 4, 1962, in Portsmouth, Virginia, he was the son of Normandy Morgan Powell and the late Elbert L. Powell Sr. On October 5, 1996, in Hyde Park, Elbert married Paula Caruso. He was a resident of Beacon and Lagrangeville. An active member of Garage Employees Local 272 IBT. Elbert graduated from Beacon High School and went on to have a fulfilling career as a driving instructor at Dutchess Driving School in Hopewell, NY, and worked at Hertz as a car transporter. Elbert was known for his love of plants, music, and sports. His dedication to his interests and his community was evident in everything he did. He is survived by his loving wife, Paula Caruso-Powell of Lagrangeville; his mother, Normandy Morgan Powell of Beacon; and his sister, Jacqueline McManus and her husband, Donald, of Watervliet, NY, his mother in law Theresa Caruso of Lagrangeville; and his brother in law Michael Caruso and his wife, Grace, of Fort Myers, FL; and his nieces, Kathryn Caruso of Melbourne, FL and Lauren Caruso of Murfreesboro, TN, and Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and many loyal friends. Calling hours for Elbert will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, located at 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, New York 12603. Funeral services will commence at 12:30 PM during the calling hours. The Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements. Elbert's life and legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made American Heart Association, American Liver Foundation, and National Kidney Foundation.
