Saverio "Sam" R. Nicotera 1923 - 2021
NEW HARTFORD - Saverio "Sam" R. Nicotera, at age 97, departed this life on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at his residence, with his son by his side.
He was born in Utica, the son of the late John and Maria Ferraiuolo Nicotera and was educated in Utica Schools, graduating from TR Proctor High School Class of 1941.
Sam enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 and served on the USS Doyen and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He was married to the former Angela "Ann" Mauro, on February 20,1954 and she passed June 18,2017, a loving union of 63 years. He was employed with Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company as a tool engineer, retiring in 1983.
He enjoyed playing golf, bingo and most of all spending time with his family.
He will be sadly missed by his son, David A. Nicotera, of Fayetteville; and his daughter, Maribeth Nicotera, of New York. Also surviving are his three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sisters, Rose Marchitelli and her husband, Joseph and Jessie Nicotera; and brothers, Leo, Anthony "Chic" and George Nicotera.

Sam's Celebration of Life will be held at Calvary Cemetery 's Christ Our Savior Chapel on Monday, 11:30 a.m., with military honors conferred by the US Navy. Visitation will be Monday, prior to service from 9:30 a.m.- 11:00 a.m., at the John L Matt Funeral Home, 3309 Oneida St., Chadwicks, NY. All must adhere to Covid-19 requirements, wearing a mask and practicing social distancing.
