Ted was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 29, 1934...... but never had a birthday fall on Thanksgiving Day...... he was married on New Years Eve of 1957......but never failed to remember to celebrate his anniversary on that date. He married his teenage sweetheart, Janet Marie Snyder, who passed away on March 6, 2022. Together they had two wonderful children, Kathleen, (Mark) Fryc and T. Daniel, (Christine) Dixon. They in turn had 3 girls who are likewise wonderful, Mallory (Paul) File, Sydney Dixon (John) and Clare Dixon (Connor).
Ted was the eldest son of Theodore and Isabelle Dick. His two brothers, Ronald and David have both passed on. His sister Arlene Malinosky and husband Mike now reside in both Connecticut and Florida, but not at the same time of course.
He is also survived by his nephews Terry (Debra) Dick and Tim (Jennifer) Dixon. His nephew, George Dick, predeceased him in September 2024. Niece Linda (Keith) Betz, Bob (Sun) Reichel, Tom (Donna) Reichel; great nephews Stephen (Megan) Dick and Nathan Dick; great niece Allison Dixon (Seth); great-great nephew, Cameron Dixon, and great-great niece, Harper Dixon.
Ted began his grade school education in the one room schoolhouse on Potter Road in the Town of Glenville and finished his elementary education in the one room schoolhouse on Cranes Hollow Road in the Town of Amsterdam. He then went on to graduate from the W.H. Lynch Senior High School in Amsterdam, N.Y. and also from Utica Tech in New Hartford, N.Y. He entered military service in 1954 and served as an honor guard in Washington, D.C. and participated in many of the military funerals at Arlington Cemetery. He also toured Germany as a member of an Infantry Counterfire Platoon. After he was discharged from military service he worked as a draftsman at the GE Plant in Schenectady, N.Y., and as a draftsman at Ward Products in Amsterdam, N.Y. In 1968 he began his long 32-year career with the NYS Department of Transportation, surveying, inspecting, and managing large construction projects. He went on to serve as Engineer in Charge of their traffic signal installation and repair crews servicing and installing over 600 sites in the Capitol District region. After retiring, he and his son Dan formed a construction company and went on to complete many general contract projects. He also spent over 20 years working with Mc Donald Engineering of Schenectady, N.Y. overseeing various construction projects in the Capitol District. In later years he and Janet spent the winter months in Florida at their home in Madeira Beach.
Ted enjoyed building things, gardening, motorcycling with his buds, fishing, camping, Florida, vodka and tonic, poker, lox, onions, George Jones, Music Man, tractors, but mainly he enjoyed his wife and family.
His one great claim to fame came early one morning, during one of his motorcycle trips to Bar Harbor, Maine when he climbed the highest point of Cadillac Mountain and saw the sun come up before anyone in the entire country of America did.
He was a past member of the Schenectady Drafting Association, the Boy Scouts of America, the Glenville Grange, and a life member of the NYS Association of Transportation Engineers, the American Legion, the VFW, and the RPEA, He and Janet were also members and active participants in the activities of the Reformed Church in Cranesville, N.Y.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Cranesville Reformed Church, 105 Cranes Hollow Rd.,
Amsterdam, NY. A calling hour will precede the service at the church beginning at 10:00 AM Thursday.
