HIGGINS, Brian James
1950 - 2017
On July 16, 2017, Brian peacefully folded his final hand. He will forever be held in the hearts of his wife Jennifer Davidson; his sisters Peggy, Mary Anne, Kathleen and Julia; his brothers Kevin and Brendan and their families. Also feeling the loss are Brian's beloved companions, Brillo and Bubba Looey. Brian touched the lives, hearts, and souls of countless people. As a passionate and devoted football coach, Brian helped shape the skill and character of his players. As the Supervising Lawyer of the Law Students Legal Advice Program at UBC, Brian merged his Law degree with his passion for coaching, and mentored his students into careers defined by values and integrity. As a poker player (not a gambler) Brian graced tables from The Lumberman's Club to Vegas leaving the other players sometimes poorer, but always richer for having met him. Over the years many have come to hold dear the honour of friendship with Brian. From Burnaby to Palm Springs, from high school to retirement, Brian was surrounded by his cherished and valued friends. A website has been set up at http:/ / If Brian touched your life in any way, please join us for a Celebration of his Extraordinary Life on July 31 from 1-4 p.m. at Northview Golf Course 6857 168 St. Surrey. Flowers, condolences, and loving friendships are greatly appreciated.

I just became aware of Brian's passing in an online search of his name in anticipation of a visit to Vancouver this summer. I traveled with Brian and his then wife Teresa in Europe for several months in 1973-74. I remember a charismatic, adventurous young man that that loved life on the road. He was special.

Just heard of Brian's passing. Brian was a great guy, smart, friendly'principled and personable in the extreme.I played a lot of poker with Brian about 30 years ago and at that time Brian was Gerald McRaney's doppleganger. He is the only person that I have known that was the spitting image of celebrity that was on television weekly at that time.I think Brian enjoyed being mistaken for McRaney. You left too soon Brian. Affectionally and respectfully, John Aalborg.

A number of us from '67 attended yesterday at Northview. Lindsay, McNulty, MacDonald, Folka and myself.

Deepest thoughts and condolences to you Kevin and your family.

Brian was a friend to each of us (very easily so) and to all he touched since STM years.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember him.

Brian was a great teacher and a very entertaining person to talk with. His presentations to legal advocates were very dynamic and all those who were trained by him appreciated his work.

To Brian's family and loved ones I am deeply sorry for your loss. I was one of the many students who learned from Brian at LSLAP. It is incredible to think of the countless lives he touched through UBC clients, students, colleagues. I will be forever grateful to him for guiding me, as a first year student, to assisting my first clients. He was my first example in this profession. I was very fortunate.
