Ronald McEachern Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on May 27, 2008.

McEACHERN - Ronald Stuart Born December 19, 1934 in Maxim, Saskatchewan to Dan and Mary McEachern. Died May 24, 2008 on Saltspring Island, BC. Sadly missed by his wife of 50 years, Sheila (Greenwood), daughter Brenda (Gary), son David (Catherine), grandsons Tristan, Duncan, Ewan and Malcolm, brother Bruce McEachern, sister Donetta Ross, and many, many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by seven brothers and one sister. Ron spent his life on the sea, firstly as a commercial fisherman and then after retirement as a pleasure boater, using his extensive knowledge of the BC coast to take friends and family to his favourite places. He and Sheila also travelled extensively throughout North America and abroad. For the last 15 years Ron coped with lung disease with grace and good humour. Many thanks to the staff at Lady Minto Hospital for their kindness and care during Ron's many stays in hospital and especially in his final days. The family is also grateful for the compassionate support of Dr. Leavitt and Sue, Sharon and Nancy of Homecare Support Services for allowing Ron to remain at home as long as possible to enjoy the view he loved so much. Celebration of life to be held 2:00pm Friday, May 30, 2008 at West Langley Hall, 9308 - 208th Street, Langley BC. Donations in lieu of flowers to Lady Minto Hospital Foundation, 135 Crofton Road, Saltspring Island, BC, V8K 1T1.
