James Arthur A. Gowans

James Arthur A. "Art" Gowans October 15, 1926 - April 30, 2016 Born in his parents' home in the municipality of South Vancouver. Art died peacefully in Burnaby Hospital after a brief illness. His parents were Alice Elizabeth Gowans (nee Wright) and James Gowans. He was predeceased by his sisters Elizabeth Burbidge, Mary Scott, and Jean Gowans. Art is survived by his wife of 59 years Rita (nee Backmeyer), and his children Eileen (Bill) Hutson, Jamie, Blaise (Kathleen), Alex, Gerald (Ingrid), and Geoff (Angela).

Art is fondly remembered by his grandchildren Quinn (Ashley), Tess (Mike), Erin, Jessica, Kayla, Jonah, Allyssa (Matt), Foster, Clayton, Ileanna, Sawyer, and Keegan and by his many nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, colleagues and members of his church families

where he was for many years an enthusiastic volunteer; Wilson heights and Collingwood United Churches and his wife's congregation of St. Mary's Roman Catholic church? .

Art worked at the BC Telephone Company from 1948 to 1984. A life long pillar of his many communities, Art was a cub and scout leader, a faithful servant of his church, a generous donor, a loving husband and father, and a warm friend. Art's family wish to express their gratitude to all the staff at Burnaby Hospital for their care of Art in his final weeks. A service in Art's memory will be held Saturday, May 28th at 2 pm at Wison Heights United Church 1634 41st Ave E, Vancouver. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wilson heights or the charity of your choice.
