John Burger Obituary

John (Jack) Harvey Burger

Camarillo, CA

August 2, 1935

February 22, 2016

Jack was born August 2, 1935 to Merle and Ruth Burger in Rockford, Illinois and raised in Oregon, Illinois. He joined the Navy after high school in 1953 and ultimately became an Equipment Operator Senior Chief serving 26 years. Very much a family man, Jack cherished his 47 year marriage to Donna. He was father to Larry, Mary, David, Jeff, Kelly, Marci, grandfather to Cody, Corey, Katelynn, Megan, Kaden, Morgan, John, great grandfather to Zoe, and brother to Jim, Neal, Bill, Cibby. In addition, he was also dad to 6 high school students through an international exchange program.

After his retirement from the Navy, he earned both a bachelors and master's degree from Laverne University. Working as a Principal Logistics Analyst for PRC, he was able to work on projects such as Reagan's Star Wars, and the beta testing of the Humvee.

Passionate about baseball, he was often found at the little league field coaching and managing numerous teams for both his children and grandchildren. When not coaching, he was on the sidelines, seldom missing a game. He always looked forward to hearing Vin say "It's time for Dodger Baseball."

Having a love for genealogy he spent many years tracing his paternal family back to some of the original Pennsylvania settlers in the 1700's.

On February 22, 2016, Daddy lost his battle with Parkinson's. We are extremely grateful to Moorpark Healthcare Center for their amazing love and care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Seabee Vets of America 188 Camelia Way, Ventura CA 93004, checks made to Island X-7 Museum Fund, or TLC Hospice Foundation 5400 Atlantis Ct, Moorpark CA 93021

Our deepest condolences to the family of Jack Burger. Jack was my first cousin. My dad, Ray Moody (brother to Ruth, Jack's mother) always talked about Jack and his many accomplishments. He was so proud of him. Thinking of you all at this time.

You were an amazing brother - I will always remember the times spent with you. Too few as there were many miles between us. My brother, friend and hero I will miss you. I am looking forward to the time we meet again. Love you, Cibby
