LEROY JOHN PAHMIYER

VICTORIA - LeRoy Pahmiyer, age 78, of Victoria, passed away Feb. 14, 2007. He was born Aug. 28, 1928, in Cuero, to the late Hugo and Ludwine (Marbach) Pahmiyer.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Williams Pahmiyer; his daughter, Le Anne Alvarez of Victoria; his sons, Mark Pahmiyer of Point Comfort, Gene Pahmiyer of Victoria, and Dale Pahmiyer of Corpus Chirsti; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He married Margie on August 18, 1990.
LeRoy graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1946; earned a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Mary's University in 1950; and earned a master's degree in education from Texas A&I University in 1954.
He served in the U.S. Army in Europe as a medical laboratory technician in an armored medical battalion during the Korean conflict. He worked as a chemist for Celanese Corp. of America later in his career.
He was an educator and administrator at McFaddin School in Refugio and Flour Bluff Independent School District. He also coached high school girls basketball, volleyball, and softball at Flour Bluff.
In 1963, he was a consultant for the Earth Science section of the Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics and Science Teaching at the University of Texas. He taught at Victoria College for 22 years and retired in 1987.
LeRoy was a licensed pilot, a farmer and rancher, and a high school and college football official. He was awarded the Southwest Football Officials Association's Honorary Life Award.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. tonight at Grace Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at Grace Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors under the auspices of the Victoria County Veterans Council, AL, CWV, VFW, DAV, MCL, MOWW, EX-POW, MOPH, VVA, and KWV will be at Memorial Park cemetery.
Pallbearers are his grandchildren: Heather Urbano, Matthew Alvarez, Patrick Alvarez, Jacob Alvarez, Susan De La Garza, Jason Pahmiyer, Lee Pahmiyer, Lynae Pahmiyer, and Courtney Pahmiyer.
Honorary pallbearers are: Dr. Armando Diaz, Ryan Vice, "Tip" Tippen, Charles Drost, Frank Ortiz, Gerald Johnson, the Ramsey's Coffee Gang, Gen LaCroix, Hope Rodriguez, Darlene DeGrand, Sharon Douglas, Sandy Leason, Becky Barfield, Melanie Stolte, Linda Muska, and the Bunco Girls.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's High School Class of '46, St. Mary's University (the LeRoy Pahmiyer Family Scholarship Fund), or Hospice of South Texas.
