Emma Batista Obituary

Emma Catherine (DeCoito) Batista Emma Catherine (DeCoito) Batista, 79 of Coronado, passed into eternal life peacefully on December 19, 2012. Born on November 25, 1933 in Hanford, California, Emma was active in the Portuguese community and even reigned as Queen of the Fatima Festa at age 17. After graduating from Tulare Union High School in 1952 she married John Martin Batista and they moved to the Palm Springs area to raise their family. There Emma was a devoted homemaker, talented seamtress and artist. She was a vibriant member of St. Theresa Chruch and School where she served as President of the Mother's Club. As her daughters grew up, Emma, known as "Mrs. B" to all the teenagers, lovingly opened her home and it was always a favorite gathering place. Emma retired to Coronado where she made many new friends and loved to attend Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, play bingo, watch the Padres and follow horseracing. She especially loved visits from her daughters and grandchildren. Emma is survived by her daughther, Cathy Batista, of Carlsbad, her daughter Yvette Magnaghi and son-in-law Ron Magnaghi of Del Mar and three loving grandchildren, Matthew, Marissa & Aubree Magnaghi. A beautiful funeral Mass was held at the Old Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside where Emma will forever rest in peace. Her positive attitude, wit and determination will be missed by all. If you wish, please consider making a donation on behalf of Emma to Sacred Heart Church, 655 C Avenue, Coronado, 92118 Attention: Pastor's Project.
