Margaret Hyun Obituary

Margaret Wilson Hyun Margaret Wilson Hyun, beloved wife, mother and artist, died at her home in Westlake Village, California on Thursday September 5, 2013 from cancer. She was 65. Margaret was born on August 10, 1948, in Hanford, California to Bud and Ferne Wilson. She graduated from Mt. Whitney High School in Visalia, California in 1966, and received both Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Fine Art degrees from the University of California Irvine. Margaret was a gifted artist and an accomplished dancer. She developed a deep love of dance and art as a child that continued throughout life. As a teen and young woman she studied ballet at both the San Francisco Ballet Company and the Joffrey Ballet Company. Margaret prominently appeared in and choreographed many ballet productions. In 1972, Margaret was one of four artists featured in an all female group exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Her performance-based artwork was innovative and part of a growing movement to push the bounds of new art forms and challenge established thought. In 1974 Margaret married the love of her life, Tahn Hyun. They lived happily together in a small apartment in Santa Monica before settling in Westlake Village where they raised their two sons and built a beautiful life together. Margaret began teaching art and dance in the early 1970's and continued to do so until 2011 when she retired. She instructed hundreds of students at Westlake Elementary, Moorpark Community College, Ballet Arts School of Dance and her home studio. She received great joy and fulfillment from working with creative young minds and watching their artistic expression take form and flourish. Margaret adored her pets and enjoyed reading, researching her genealogical history, and spending time outdoors. One of her greatest joys was spending time at her cabin in Wilsonia, Kings Canyon National Park. Margaret is survived by her husband, Tahn Hyun; two sons, Nathan and Graham Hyun, mother, Ferne Wilson; brother, John Wilson; grandson, Forrest Hyun; daughter-in-laws, Chodon Sass and Yumi Lifer; nephews, Daniel Roberts and Stephen Wilson; nieces, Camille Milder, Elizabeth Wilson Gibbs and Katherine Wilson; and dog, Emma. She is predeceased by her father, D.R. Bud Wilson and sister, Susanne Bede Roberts. A celebration of Margaret's life will be held at Descanso Gardens in La Canada, California on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at 5 PM. Remembrances may be made to the Sierra Club or to your favorite environmental conservation charity.

I was in art classes with Margy in 1965 (if you can believe that!). Here I am in 2024, remembering her as a wonderful, almost magical person.
I feel sad she died so long ago, and I never got to tell her what a positive impression she made on me way back then. Today, November 2024, alive and well, thinking of her as a very special teenage girl while she is gone all these years. Life is so unfair...

I met Margaret at a " Mommy and me group" during my first year in the US. We formed a regular weekly group with four other amazing women. It lasted for 5 years. She was a beautiful soul. Condolences to her family. Be strong for her.

Margaret was my first ballet teacher. And now as I help my own child through her classes i tell her the same thing Margaret told me, "bend your knees when you land!" She was a wonderful and thorough teacher. I'm priveledged to be her student. She lives on in my memories and I hope to find her in heaven one day where we can dance for Jesus. Prayers for her family.

Although I never met her face-to-face, I corresponded with her when I was treasurer for DWDWRA. She invested a great deal of energy in the assoiation for years and she will be greatly missed.

I enjoyed her ballet classes and, as an adult dancer, she was encouraging and very kind. Praying that she is dancing at the throne of our Savior and Lord!

I will always remember the friendly smile, class and grace with which you cheerfully made high school a nicer place to be.
