Clifford Hughes Obituary

Clifford Burton Hughes was born Oct. 18, 1927 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles to his loving parents Clifford E. and Sarah Hughes. Clifford died peacefully on May 24, 2009 at Hoag Memorial Presbyterian Hospital in Newport Beach. He lived in Corona Del Mar for 10 years.

Clifford has two loving twin daughters, Teri Angelo and Jeri Smith. He has four stepchildren, Mark Kastilahn, Debra Futryk, Christine Bauer and Sherri Boda. Cliff is fortunate to have eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Clifford was in the Naval Air Training Program when it closed in 1945. When the war ended Cliff served his remaining service at San Diego. He attended several colleges in the Los Angeles area until his education at USC, where he graduated in 1952. He then went to law school at USC which he completed in 1955. While at USC Cliff joined the Beta Theta Pi fraternity where he served as president and alumni offices.

Cliff enjoyed swimming and water polo at USC. Later in life he swam in the Senior Olympics in Palm Desert with his old Stanford rival, Jim Jones.

Cliff was a busy man with many activities. He served on boards with Salvation Army, Rotary, City of Hesperia, volunteer activities, horse clubs, VFW, Mooselodge, Elks, Museum Board, Horse Clubs and Eagles, and was a member of chambers of commerce in Los Angeles, Apple Valley, Victorville and Hesperia.

His life was full and busy with wonderful friends and activities. Cliff loved his horses, dogs, cats and 130 ducks.

Through all the years Cliff practiced law and had many clients that he always cared about and served.

He is survived by his wife Jean, his loving partner of 26 years.

Cliff will be missed by all his family and friends. God bless you.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 2 at Kern Hesperia Mortuary with a memorial luncheon to follow at Eagles.
