Russell G. Brockfeld

Russell Gale Brockfeld, 87, Warrenton, passed away Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, at his home.

He was born Nov. 6, 1926, in Truesdale, the son of Gustave August Brockfeld and wife Nellie Mae. Russell was the past owner of Warrenton Oil, Warren Tire and Muffler and Fellowship Nursing Home. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Russell was a member and past All-State Commander of Warrenton VFW Post 2180, past All-State Commander District 9 VFW, 2001-2002, Warrenton Elks Lodge, Warrenton Masonic Lodge and Warrenton American Legion Post. He served for 20 years as a Missouri state representative where he also was Minority Whip and Minority Floor Leader. Russell was the first recipient of the Warrenton High School Outstanding Alumni Award in 2000. He also was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ. Russell was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.

He was the beloved husband of Janis Brockfeld, nee Grannemann, Warrenton. Russell also is survived by two sons, Jon E. (Mary) Brockfeld and Edward M. Meyer, all of Warrenton; two daughters, Lynn G. Cole, Columbia, and Betty J. Willette, Alabama state; three grandsons, Jeffrey Cole, Andy (Kristin Schneider) Brockfeld and Christopher Cole; one granddaughter, Abbigail (Troy) Strother; one great-granddaughter, Anna Strother; other relatives and many friends. Russell will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustave and Nellie Brockfeld; and one brother, Jon E. Brockfeld.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Aug. 12, from noon to 8 p.m. at Pitman Funeral Home, Warrenton.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment followed in Warrenton City Cemetery, Warrenton.

Memorials to Mexico Veterans Home or Friedens U.C.C., in care of Pitman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 126, Warrenton, MO 63383 are preferred.
