DAVID CHERRY Obituary
DAVID CHERRY (Age 68)
Of Fairfax, VA died unexpectedly at his boat on Saturday, May 21, 2016. Loving husband of Gina Vicic-Cherry; devoted father of BreAnna Cherry, Michael Cherry (fiancee'' Tiana Garrett) and Monique Moody. He is also survived by his brother, Father Glenn Parker and sisters, Camelia and Aletha Cherry, many nieces and nephews, two grandchildren and his ex-wife, Priscilla Cherry. David loved to barbeque, go boating and he enjoyed the Chesapeake Bay. He retired from the US Government after 40 years of Federal service. Relatives and friends are invited to his Life Celebration at MONEY AND KING FUNERAL HOME, 171 West Maple Ave., Vienna, VA on Friday, May 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. and where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 28 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggest that contributions be made to a charity of your choice. It has been a chock to hear the sad news. I had lost contact with Dave for a few years but three years back our path crossed again and i was happy to be able to enjoy Dave friendship and expertise again. The international datalink community will miss you.

It is with great sadness that I offer the deepest condolences of all Dave's friends and professional colleagues in the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal. From the mid-90s Dave played a significant role as the US-nominated member of the Automatic Dependent Surveillance Panel, (later renamed the Operational Data Link Panel). Even in the early days he was the elder-Statesman of the panel, exuding a calming influence over a group of experts, building consensus with a quiet charm. Through this period he also managed a sometimes large group of advisors, possibly akin to herding cats - and again, Dave would achieve his ultimate singular objective of finding solutions. The Secretariat members have always been indebted to him for this role, but also, for his camaraderie, good spirits, sense of humor and inclusiveness. He was a born diplomat, often working only in the background, but his participation in the technical work of ICAO was a significant factor in the total work achieved. He will be missed by us all, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
