In reading the other messages I am reminded of how wonderful Susie was! When I was with her I felt that I had all of her attention but reading these messages I realized that her life was full of far more people and projects than I could imagine. She was such a lovely and loving woman that always was generous with her time and energy and I loved her very much and I remember her very very often . Nobody is like her.

Dear Norma and family: I am so very saddened by the loss of Susie. She was a wonderful friend over these many years. Luckily the Hoaglands and Hurleys were Phoenix neighbors. We grew up together. Childhood memories of playing jacks, Susie and I visiting the Heard any time just by walking in, enjoying the Hurley playhouse, back yard birthday parties and of course, Susie's lending library for all the neighborhood kids. Thankfully our friendship continued at the U of A, and later over lunches in Tucson or when I was in the east on business. Susie was a delight....gracious, graceful and giving. With much love, Pam Hoagland, Tucson and Prescott

To Pat, Denise, Christine, John, and your dear families: It's hard to say good-bye to your loving mother, your wonderful and outstanding Nana, and your endearing companion. Susie "D" was always fun and interesting to be with; she was wise in life and personality; and a supreme optimist about people, especially children. We felt warmly accepted into her home and by the whole family even before our Susy and Pat "tied the knot."
It was a privilege to know her. We send our prayerful thanks for her life, and send you all our deepest sympathy.

Somewhere up there Susie, Pat, Madeline, and the Hurleys are together telling stories and, of course, laughing. I am sure that my Mom is working her way into the conversation, and Susie is making sure that Mom has her facts straight. Susie sure knew my Mom. ; )
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I miss you folks. Ted M.

Denise, Christine, and Patrick and all your families,
We were so saddened to learn of Susie's serious illness these many months ago and now her death. I'm flooded with so many memories of times shared through the years and the first one that comes up is Susie's idea of Kino Krunch to add needed revenue to our always revenue needy Kino Learning Center in the 70"s. Not sure how much revenue was created but it certainly was an experience handing out samples at local grocery stores! Susie was the most organized person I had ever known..she must have had stock in the index card market. What a loss to all who knew and loved her. I can't imagine how heartbroken all those grandchildren must be. We both send love and prayers for the days ahead.

Dear Denise, Christine, and Patrick,
Where have the years gone? Your mother was a role model for many, including me, and a caring friend to all. Her energy, spunk, and never-ending optimism were the hallmarks that helped me to get through our first freezing cold winter in Washington. You are so fortunate to have had such a wonderful woman in your lives.

I love your mother very much. She always was smiling and beautiful. She always talked about you Denise and Christine and Patrick. When I see you at the memorial service I'll tell you all about how wonderful she was to me. She inspired me and encouraged me and other women who knew her in Washington to follow her example and do good for others in any way we could. We would always try to follow her example but of course no-one ever could . I miss her.
