Several people said they enjoyed going to see Jim as a dentist. I am among them, and can go one further. I needed a crown and was very scared. Jim had me so relaxed while I listening to James Taylor through headphones. As I left, Karen asked me how it went and I said I'd been to parties that weren't so much fun.
I miss Jim as a dentist, but I also miss him as a person. He was truly a wonderful person.

As one of Jim's cousins from deep in the mountains of southwestern Va,I spent time with Jim, his brother, Tommy, and two other cousins, Mark and Dana, when they came to visit their grandmother- my aunt- during their summer vacation. Jim was so much fun, full of imagination--and so kind. I'm so thankful I had some time to know him as an adult, too, and to know that he remained the same wonderful person that we all loved.
I will miss him terribly, but, I know he had strong faith and love for Christ and for his wonderful family. There is an abiding peace in my heart that tells me he has finally gone back home, and he's fine with that.
Until we meet, again, Jimmy. I love you.

Jim was a great dentist and I always looked forward to coming in for a visit. I trusted his care and enjoyed his personality. He was also a great person, and I marveled at the trips he took to help others. I started missing him when he retired and I feel a great loss now. I'm sure he is resting in peace and reaping the rewards of a life well spent.

Karen, everyone who knew Jim, loved and respected him. His outreach to developing countries was awesome. And his dentistry practice in Boyd's was the best. I am a better person because I knew Jim and I will always fondly think of him as one of my most favorite humans.

Karen and family: as your temporary next door neighbor, I've only known you and Jim a short time. However, it took me no time at all to know that both of you are beautiful people. I imagine Jim sitting in his office upstairs, smoking a pipe and pondering his next book. Like a sailor with a mission! But seriously, You and Jim both have touched my heart. I feel your pain, your loneliness, and your loss, but i also share your beautiful faith in an afterlife of peace, fulfillment, and boundless love to which we all hope to attain through God's tender mercies.

Dr. Rhea became my dentist when I moved back to Mo Co from Baltimore in 1989. Over the next 25+ years he became the family dentist for me, my husband and our two daughters. Jim and Karen and the entire office staff became our friends, even our family. His loss is profoundly felt by everyone lucky enough to have known him. I have no doubt he's in heaven right now doing pro bono work! Rest in peace Jim. You made the world a better place.
