I just learned that our dear brother, Retired Colonel and former Undersecretary of the US Army passed away and that his, truly, wonderful and beloved wife Mrs.Jean Shannon preceded him in departing this earthly home by one day.I offer my deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of two, truly great people.
During my tenure as president of Secretary Shannon's Alma Mater, Central State University, I had a great honor and truly humbling experience of conferring upon Secretary Shannon the honorary Doctor of Laws Degree
Secretary Shannon provided phenomenal support to CSU and to all HBCUs and minority institutions. Secretary Shannon sent me and other HCU personnel on many missions to interact with our soldiers and to study and advise him on problems related to racism and discrimination. I will be eternally grateful and indebted to Secretary Shannon for his friendship, support, trust, loyalty, advice, time, patience, and tolernce. He and his wife, Mrs. Jean Shannon will always be remembered for their brilliance, kindness, and graciousness. Mrs. Shannon and Secretary Shannon made this world a much better place. Thank you and God bless you. "We will see you in the morning" Mr. Secretary we will see you at Kappa Table in the Chapter Invisible,
Very sincerely, respectfully prayerfully, and sorrowfully,
Yours in the Bond,
Your friend, brother, and colleague,
Arthur E. Thomas

Our heartfelt condolences to the family of John and Jean Shannon. My husband, Steve, worked for Mr. Shannon when he served as the Under Secretary of the Army many years ago. John and his wife, Jean, were very kind to us during a time when I was dealing with a very serious medical situation. Their kindness to us and their support during that time meant so much to my husband and me. We treasure the friendship that grew between us and which lasted through the years, as we exchanged Christmas greetings each December. May John and Jean rest in the arms of the Lord and may they be welcomed with great joy by their son, John, Jr and other family members that have gone on to heaven before them. Sincerely, Marie Curry

My friend Chico, your friendship, laughter, and loyalty will surely be missed. From meeting you in Charlotte in the late 70s until our recent conversations by phone, was a genuine friendship that will last through eternity. I am sure you and Jon will open a superstore in heaven. God bless you my friend.
