Professor Trebach, I still think about you, especially now that I am in academia. Not only were you a great professor, but you were also a decent human being. Your tremendous work on the hill, your advocacy and your professionalism are remembered and celebrated,

Dr. Trebach was the best college professor I ever had. At UT, his Constitutional Law classes were superb, and prepared me well for the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism and as a journalist for The Associated Press and NBC News. I saw him later when he was with the U.S. Civil Rights Comission. He played an important role in my journalism career.

My professor in graduate school and a great man who also advocated for the health and comfort of cancer patients by adjusting the dosage of their medicine in accordance with their level of pain-
I am just learning of his death while researching his book to recommend that it be taught at the college where I teach.

Professor Trebach was by far my favorite professor at AU. I got to take two classes with him. His passion was contagious. My sympathies to his family.

Arnold touched and in some way mentored everyone who met him, including his former student and friend, John Rayburn, who was my former husband. His energy and generosity of spirit touched us all, and made our lives richer.

Dr. Trebach created University Research Co. in 1965 and the company is still working today with over 1,000 employees in the US and over 30 low and middle income countries globally. URC’s mission remains as Dr. Trebach envisioned in 1965 to lift the poor and minorities out of poverty and crime. In the U.S., URC has worked on substance abuse issues with the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration as well as with special education programs for migrant farm workers and their children. URC also expanded globally to improve services for the underserved in health systems and infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, and now COVID 19. Dr. Trebach participated in several of URC’s anniversary celebrations over the years to share his experience and assure our employees kept our eyes on the mission. It is an understatement to say he was a true visionary, well ahead of his time. We see the value of his work every day. He was also a wonderful person who communicated his revolutionary messages in a peaceful and yet persuasive manner. URC is continuing his legacy throughout the world. I send my condolences to Marji the Trebach family and hold you in the Light. Dr. Trebach was one of the four most important persons in my professional life. In the early 1980s, I was an assistant counsel to the House Judiciary Committee and a frustrated lieutenant in the war on drugs. But I heard about THE HEROIN SOLUTION and began to talk with Arnold about drug policy. He got me an adjunct lecturer job at American University, teaching International Narcotics Policy for a semester -- an absolutely essential step in my career, for which I am eternally in his debt.
I was thrilled by his founding of the Drug Policy Foundation and attended all of their conferences, including the first conference he organized in London. Critically to this important drug policy reform work, Arnold's warmth and friendships encouraged leaders from around the world to come to DPF conferences in Washington, the foundation of our international movement.
I have always profoundly admired Arnold's drive, intelligence, compassion and integrity. I am proud that my organization could pay for a full page back cover to honor him in the program of the 20th anniversary of the awards dinners he founded and hosted, when it was held in New Orleans.

Today's Memorial service was beautifully done, the Rabbi in the family was eloquent, and David, Paul, and Adam all spoke movingly about their love for their father and for Marj.
Thank you for letting me share the time with you.
I raise a glass (a small one) of vodka to you all.
May Arnold's memory be a blessing to all who loved him.

I got to know Arnold when my first husband, John Rayburn, was Arnold's student at the University of Tennessee. We followed Arnold when he came to Washington and John consulted with him often while beginning his own career with the government. I was fortunate to know and admire Arnold for many years. I'm sending my deepest condolences and sympathy to Marge and his sons. Arnold was a wonderful man and though you'll miss him you'll have such wonderful memories to comfort you.

Dr. Trebach was my favorite professor when I was a journalism major at the University of Tennessee in 1960 and 1961. His enthusiasm, great lectures, and knowledge of constitutional law led me to get a minor in constitutional law. This followed me to graduate school at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, and I wrote my master's thesis on a Tennessee reapportionment case, Baker v. Carr, which became a landmark Supreme Court decision in 1962. We had discussed that case many times at U.T. I later visited Professor Trebach at the U.S. Civil Rights Commission in Washington. He was an inspiration to me and to hundreds of other students. His life and devotion to the U.S. Constitution will live on in the lives of many of his former students. My condolences to his family. He lived a long and fruitful life. The world is a better place because of him.
