I'm so sad to learn of Dorothy's passing at this late date. I had her for Color Theory at Carnegie Mellon University and fondly remember her as an outstanding teacher. Her enthusiasm for design was infectious. Truly a great loss. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

I have been mourning the loss of my dear colour teacher Dorothy Yanik. A pupil of Bauhaus artist Josef Albers, Dorothy brought Albers's method to her students, with exquisite enthusiasm whilst gracefully transmitting the poetry of his colour theories. She took care of her students like a warm hearted Jewish mum, never losing her temper, and taking proper time when marking our projects, which she did with the aid of a special light, and viewing never more than few at a time, in order to give the necessary rest to her clinical eyes. As a shy student, I very much appreciated the INDIVIDUAL attention and fairness she shared to us. In my heart she will always occupy the space of one of my greatest teachers, but not only as the one who taught so well, perhaps the least tangible of design subjects, but most of all as a fine example that elegance comes from within RIP Dorothy My condolences to her family and loved ones.

She was like a sister to me. Even though we were only 7 yrs apart she always called me her "baby" niece. Rest well Aunt Dotty.
