Catherine Horner Obituary

HORNER, CATHERINE HENRIETTA DANIELS

CATHERINE DANIELS HORNER was born in France, on June 12, 1925, and died on January 13, 2005, of cancer. Catherine, or Trinette, received her Baccalaureate degree from the French Lycee in Brazil during the Second World War. After secretarial training in Canada, she worked for the Dutch Embassy in Washington, DC, as part of the Allied war effort. In 1945, she traveled to Turkey, where she met her future husband, John (Jack) Evarts Horner, a U.S. Foreign Service Officer. They married in 1946 and began a fifty-one year marriage spent mostly outside of the United States in Bulgaria, the former Soviet Union, Afghanistan, France, Greece, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia. When Jack became the Secretary-General of the International Multiple Sclerosis Society, the family moved to Austria. Trinette and Jack also served as the American Friends Service Committee Middle East Representatives in Cyprus for five years. In 1980, they retired to Seattle. Trinette was preceded in death by Jack in 1997, Jack Jr. (Jack's son by his first marriage) in 1958, and sister Joanne in 1993. She is survived by her four children, Jonathan Horner, Christopher Horner, Bill Horner, and Stephanie Horner Rainbolt; Jill Horner Jencks (Jack's daughter by his first marriage); granddaughter Jennifer Horner; sister Lee Daniels Imkamp; brother Willem Daniels; six nieces; and five nephews. A Memorial Mass was held on January 14, 2005, at the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake. Her cousin, Fr. Peter Monty, S.J., officiated. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or the United Nations International Children's Educational Fund (UNICEF).

To Trinette's family

It is with great sadness that I send my condolences to you all. She was a great friend to my mother Lillian Mills. Whenever I visited from Minnesota, we'd have tea or go to lunch and I can hear her beautiful lyric voice telling me all about her family and her life. She will be sorely missed by so many including my mother and me. We feel blessed to have counted her a friend.
