BARBARA Paramore   Obituary


Barbara Ann Paramore   (Age 79)  
A longtime psychiatric nurse with the Baltimore VA Medical Center, died on August 26, 2021 at Woodbury Wellness Center in Hampstead, North Carolina. A Northern Virginia native, born in 1942, Ms. Paramore grew up in the Fairlington neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia. Initially training for a career in music, she attended Indiana University as a voice major before transferring to George Washington University, graduating with a BA in English and a certification as an elementary educator. After a brief stint as a classroom teacher in the Washington area, Mr. Paramore opted to change careers and worked in human factors engineering field with several consulting agencies/government contractors, including ORI. Essex, and SAIC. Her human factors career focused on pioneering work in the development of operations, safety, and security protocols at large facilities in the nuclear power and energy fields. After more than two decades in human factors, Ms. Paramore again changed careers to become a psychiatric nurse with the Veterans Administration in Baltimore after attending an accelerated nursing program at the John Hopskins University. She was employed by the VA for 20 years before retiring in Columbia, MD. Ms. Paramore is survived by her sister, Betsy Paramore Fidalgo; nephews, Kevin and Christopher Fidalgo; and a niece, Katherine Anderson. A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Paul Farmer Projects in Health (https://www.pih.org/donate
