ERIC MATTHEW DODDS
September 12, 1962 - November 3, 2022
Eric Matthew Dodds lost his extended battle with colon cancer on November 3, 2022. He will be remembered for his humor, insight, strength, kindness, and style. A Nebraska native, Democrat and Cornhuskers fan, Eric's interest in politics brought him to DC where he championed causes and candidates. His varied career included serving as Nebraska state director of the Clinton '92 campaign followed by an appointment in the Clinton Administration for eight years, then the United Nations Mission in Kosovo and finally strategic consulting. He was an avid cyclist, rower on the Potomac, and enjoyed reading, gardening, travel, and frequenting farmer's markets and outdoor events with his longtime partner, Julie Anderson. In addition to Julie, he is survived by his mother, Kaye Dodds, his brother Kirk Dodds, nieces and nephews, his quirky yet beloved Scottie, his tiny but intrepid black cat, extended family, Dupont Circle neighbors and many, many friends, all of whom are better for having known him and are utterly heartbroken. No service planned at this time.

Julie he was one of my all time favorites and the last few times that I saw him he was at Trader Joe's on 25th Street, NW. We always chatted a bit and caught. Now that I know that he is missing, i will always think of him when I got to Trader Joe's because I always think of them when I go there.

i am so sorry that I did not know about Eric; he was a great guy and always took a few minutes to chat with me wherever we were. I think the last time I saw him was Trader Joe's on 25th Street, NW. Standing in line at TJ's always gives me time to catch up. I know his family and friends are missing him. I am so glad we had him as long as we did. Patsy Thomasson

Dear Julie and the Dodds family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I have many fond memories of Eric in the MSOD program at American University. We were a part of Cohort 53 that enabled us to enjoy a close connection, where we challenged each other academically and personally. I admired Eric for his clever insights, deep intellect, quirky sense of humor, and most of all the sparkle in his eyes. I'm keeping you all in my heart during this difficult time.

Eric, the perfect gentleman. I´m glad my very good and beautiful friend Julie introduced me and other close friends. Your friendship was truly valued. Eric, I can truly say all who´ve known you over the years as a friend or an acquaintance will always remember your quiet strength and warm smile. And we´ll have loving memories for a very long time. I´ve known you my whole life - grateful for all the Gatorade you brought to my games, watching Jesse and Kickin´ It with you, the constant supply of Krispy Kremes, each flower you picked for me from your garden, the haircuts and toy destruction with Bella, visits and calls when I was sick or injured, helping me with school projects, every holiday we spent together in vampire fangs, pilgrim hats, blinking noses and rabbit ears, your encouragement, perfectly timed humor, defense of my sometimes out-there clothing choices, and your big, awesome bear hugs. I love you.

Seeing the autumn colors this year and thinking of Eric and how many photos he would have taken while biking through Rock Creek before finding the one tree with a snake hidden in it to freak us out (Julie especially). Always made us smile - we will miss you
