H. GLASSMAN Obituary

GLASSMAN HERBERT BRADFORD GLASSMAN "Brad" (Age 48) Of Alexandria, Virginia died of cancer on July 15, 2015. He was the devoted father of Jack and Sam and beloved husband of Jennifer (Helsel) Glassman. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his mother, Joyce, also of Alexandria; his brother, Bernard and wife, Zita of Bethesda, MD; his sister-in-law, Betty Glassman of Washington, DC, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert and brother, Stanley. Brad graduated from Brown University and the law school at the University of Virginia. He spent five years with the United States Department of Justice, serving as Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General, Special Assistant to the General Counsel of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, and a litigating attorney with the Civil Division's Office of Immigration Litigation. As Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General, Brad advised then-Attorney General Janet Reno and then-Deputy Attorney General Eric Holder in some of the Justice Department's most complex and sensitive matters, including the EliÁn GonzÁlez matter. After leaving the Department of Justice in 1999, he joined the law firm of Baach Robinson & Lewis (now Lewis Baach pllc) where he became a partner and practiced complex commercial litigation. He was a loving and caring husband, father and son, a wonderful friend and a valued colleague. He battled his aggressive cancer with optimism, rationality and good humor. He passed away far too young and his family, friends and colleagues will miss him always, but find solace in the wisdom and warmth that he brought to us all. A memorial gathering and celebration of Brad's life will be held on August 1, 2015, from noon to four o'clock at the Belle Haven Country Club, 6023 Fort Hunt Rd., Alexandria, VA 22307. Please RSVP to: [email protected] if you plan to attend the event. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those wishing to honor Brad make donations in his memory to support child victims of cancer at the SOS Kids Foundation Attn: Contributions, 5826 W. Bluemound Road Milwaukee, WI 53213 or online at: http://www.soskidsfoundation.org/ helping-kids/donate.php or to Capital Caring Hospice, Attn: Resource Development, 2900 Telestar Court, Falls Church, Virginia 22042 or online at: http://www.capitalcaring.org/ http://www.capitalcaring.org/

Brad was a childhood friend of mine and we were pretty close. We lost touch in our early teens. Our families were friends and we spent countless days together either swimming for the Oceans Clubs swim team, riding waves or skateboards and plenty more. Those were some good times. My condolences to Joyce and the his family.

There are no words that can express my sincere sympathy to Jennifer, Jack, Sam, and Joyce. "Sorry" seems empty and insufficient. I had the joy of knowing Bradford since he was a baby. I watched him grow into a fine young man. I attended his Bar Mitzvah and graduation from Brown. He was a joy. I can close my eyes and hear his joyous childhood laughter and see the impish smile he had when he was playing a trick on someone, see him eating grilled cheese and bacon, and fooling people into believing he could tell time when he was just 3. My son Kevin loved Bradford as his best friend when they were children. I cannot imagine your loss and pain. My heart breaks for all of you. He was a joy and a gentleman. I pray that you find peace. I love you Joycie.

My sincerest condolences to the family.
I was fortunate enough to have known Brad since he was a child, celebrated his bar mitzvah, graduation from UVA law school, and Jen and Brads wedding. He was indeed a special person.
I am very sad over his loss. Doris Addenbrook
