On December 4, 2018, Jacques "Jack" Singleton Gansler, age 84, died peacefully at his home from complications of melanoma. He was the beloved husband of Leah; loving father of Gillian, Douglas and Christine; father-in-law of Michael Kanell; and adoring grandfather to Jenna, Vance, Samuel, William and Kaitlin.
Jack was an extraordinary man. His intellect, humanity and passion for his work on behalf of our nation was inspiring, as were his humility and quiet sense of humor. He accomplished much - earned two masters and a PhD; was considered one of the best professors at Harvard, University of Virginia and University of Maryland; wrote 10 books and hundreds of articles; and as Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisitions, Technology and Logistics changed the way the DoD does business.
He was loved dearly by his family who will never forget him. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the University of Maryland Chapel.
