I knew John in the early 80's. He was a friend and taught me a lot about Go. We both worked in the same government office building and spent most lunches together playing Go. He was a kind, intelligent, and patient gentleman. My condolences to his extended family.

John was truly an amazing person. I had the opportunity to work with him in the program budget office and there are not enough kind words that can accurately describe him. He was a colleague, a mentor, a friend... Not only was he intelligent and kind, but he always made me smile, he had a phenomenal sense of humor and patience to spare. John will truly be missed...

Very sorry to hear of John's passing, he was a good friend from the time when I was active in the local Go scene. While I haven't seen him or his family recently, I retain fond memories of playing Go and socializing with John - best wishes to his family at this difficult time.

John brought people from all backgrounds together. In the short year since I arrived at ARL, I befriended John by becoming involved in the community events he offered in Beltsville (Monday Game Nights), and at ARL: checking out restaurants to cater Asian Pacific Heritage Month events, and Bridge Club every 2nd Friday on the 4th Floor. John always welcomed everyone, and always had something to teach and share. What a great human. I will miss you John.

We always had a good time with John on biweekly Bridge games during lunch time at Adelphi Lab Center (ALC). John was so nice and patient to teach and mentor the beginners, challenged and encouraged players to participate competitions. As a colleague, John not only worked diligently, achieved excellence, and enjoyed playing Golf, Tennis as well. As an Asian American, John was always willing to share his valuable knowledge and experience as a panel discussion coordinator during yearly Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month (May) to inspire and advocate diversity workforce. John is missed by his coworkers and friends at ALC.

I was saddened to learn of John's passing. We were old friends going back to 1979 in the DC area when we played a lot of go games at the Greater Washington Go Club and at lunch at the Nassif Building (DOT). I appreciated his kind nature and his enthusiasm. We collaborated in finding a meeting place in Arlington and organizing the Northern Virginia Go Club. The last time I saw John was at the tenth US Go Congress in DC. I value our friendship and miss him. Rest in peace.

John was the first friend I made as a lonely commuter to the University of Maryland. He introduced me to other, lifelong friends in his circle and I will be eternally grateful to him. I admired his intellect and his curiosity about the world. He will be sorely missed.
