Rosalind "Roz" Joyce Leverett Phoenix Walker Dixon (Age 83) died peacefully at her home on June 19, 2021, surrounded by family. She was born on May 14, 1938, in Muskogee, OK. At the age of six, her family moved to Portland, OR, where she was raised. She earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Howard University, where she was active in the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She taught for 42 years, mostly at Sousa Middle School in SE Washington, DC. She also taught at schools in San Jose, CA, and Los Angeles, CA. Her favorite pastimes were playing contract bridge, pinochle, scrabble, and taking cruises. She taught bridge and worked as a director at several contract bridge clubs and tournaments for both the American Bridge Association and the American Contract Bridge League. She was predeceased by her husbands John Phoenix, Bill Walker and Bill Dixon. Daughter of the late Ulysses and Beatrice Leverett, sister of the late Ronald Leverett and aunt of the late Marc Leverett, she is survived by her sister Brenda, son Jawanza Phoenix, daughter Rhonda Phoenix-Tildon, step-daughter Janet, grandchildren Sean and Kirsten, niece Tyra, nephew Stephen and many friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 26, at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Atonement, 10613 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD. Arrangements by Anatomy Gifts Registry of Hanover, MD.
