Charles Schnetzler Obituary

SCHNETZLER CHARLES CARTER SCHNETZLER On December 15, 2009, Charles Carter Schnetzler, 79, beloved husband and father. BS, Geology, University of Kansas, 1952; four years, officer, US Navy; Ph.D., MIT, 1961, soon thereafter began 40 year career as scientist and manager for NASA, Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD. Presented with NASA''s Exceptional Achievement Award in 1992. Active member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Silver Spring since 1963, where he assumed many leadership roles. Active in community service, including delivery of Meals on Wheels and volunteer work at Howard County Hospital in Columbia, MD. Survived by Beverly Schnetzler, wife, Columbia, MD; Margaret Jones, daughter, Westminster, MD; Robert Schnetzler, son, Middletown, MD; William Schnetzler, son, Lusby, MD; Ann Ackerman, daughter, Manchester, MD; Jeff Johnston, stepson, Elkridge, MD; David Johnston, stepson, Elkridge, MD; Peter Johnston, stepson, Ellicott City, MD; Robert Schnetzler M.D., brother, Auburn, CA; 14 grandchildren, one proceeding Charles in death. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 9, at 2 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Silver Spring, MD. Directions at www.uucss.org Additional parking at the CHI Center at 10501 New Hampshire Avenue, one block north of the church. Contributions may be made to the Charles Schnetzler Building Fund at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Silver Spring (UUCSS), 10309 New Hampshire Avenue , Silver Spring , MD 20903, or to the Alzheimer''s Association in his honor.
