I am very sorry to learn of Eleanor Coerr's passing. I had the great privilege of illustrating her wonderful book, THE BIG BALLOON RACE.
Though we never met in person, from her marvelous writing in her books and in several letters we exchanged, I was charmed by her forthrightness and energy.
My deepest condolences to her family.

I want to offer you heartfelt condolences on behalf of our family, both Buchsbaums and Pearses. When Eleanor & Wym were living in Monterey, my parents, Ralph & Mildred Buchsbaum, were quite close to them, and we all enjoyed many visits together. Her books were favorites of our son Devon, and of course, the adults enjoyed them, too, as they were much beyond typical children's books, saved now for our granddaughter. Eleanor was a remarkable writer and a joy to know as a friend.

So sorry to hear of Eleanor's passing. She was a great friend for many years in Saskatoon and was my bridesmaid in 1940. I remember her fondly. Sleep well, Eleanor.
