My deepest sympathies and prayers to the Phynes family. I first met Herman while working at Vogue/Butterick Patterns in the early 70's. Our paths crossed again years later when he was at Springs. Always the gentleman, Herman was kind, generous with his time and expertise, and oh so talented. He will be missed.

Our thoughts and prayer are with the Phynes family. RIP Herman! We will always remember the holiday dinner in our home when the entire Phynes family came to Plano Texas. It was a fun evening, one we will never forget. We are truly saddened to hear of Herman's passing.

I met Herman at Vogue/Butterick. It was my first 'real' job out of college. Herman arrived a week or so after I did - he as Fabric Editor and me as Gal Friday ( yes, in 1969 we were Gal Fridays!). I have always wished for everyone that they have a first boss who is as exciting, encouraging and creative as Herman. I will never forget the night Herman, Diane and I went to the Norman Norell retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum. Herman made me a sequin cardigan jacket so I looked ' a la Norell' and at 25 I felt oh so grownup and glamourous. Thanks for a glorious memory Herman.

My Dear Brother-in-law, HWP it is very difficult for me to release you to go your way as you enter a new phase... We just looked around and you were gone.
I do however find some comfort in knowing you will be with the family who preceded you, Beth, Uncle Arthur, Daddy, Denny and Papa Skip.
We cry for our selves because you leave such a VOID in our lives. Wonderful Father, Brother, Uncle and Friend.

We met Mr. Phynes as vendors in the Sleepy Poet Antique Mall, and felt from the first there was something so special and ethereal about him. He is in Heaven, I am sure, cheering up the minions there. I am so sorry we did not know him better, and we will surely miss his spirit and his gentlemanly and obviously caring presence among us. It was our delight to "bump into him and have a chat!" We will hold his family in our prayers for their deep loss.

My Sincere sympathy to all of Herman's family. I am a dealer a Sleepy Poet Antique Mall and enjoyed by visits with Herman. I have a beautiful tote bag that he gifted to me to use for my "dealer needs". The 1st year Herman was a dealer there we attended the Company Christmas Party, and my husband and I had the honor of his company at our table. I will miss him. He was very talented and generous.
