CARMEN HOCKER WALKER  
Carmen Hocker Walker passed peacefully from this life on September 4, 2015. She is survived by her loving son, Ike Walker, grandchildren, Josh and Logan Walker, whom she fervently loved, brothers, George, Tommy, Calvert and Steve Hocker and their families, and a multitude of close friends and colleagues.  Carmen spent most of her career as a public servant, supporting the missions of the National Institute of Health, and Departments of the Navy, Treasury and Homeland Security. She advocated for the equal treatment of all, and was highly regarded for her skills in training, interest-based bargaining and alternate dispute resolution. She was a consummate professional who willingly gave of her time and talents to mentor those around her, including the 7th grade class of LaSalle Academy. After her federal career, Carmen continued her service with the VITAL and REACH Organizations as a mentor and advocate for injured and disabled service members, helping them transition to new careers. Carmen obtained her undergraduate and Masters degrees from Howard University, where she was a proud sister of Alpha Kappa Alpha. Carmen was a world traveler, a jazzercise enthusiast, an avid reader and a grandmother extraordinaire. The family would like to thank the Staff of Virginia Cancer Specialists and the Caregivers of Capital Care, who provided her incredible care and support. Funeral services will be held at Holy Redeemer Church, 206 New York Ave, NW, Washington, DC. on September 19th at 11am. Visitation with the family will be before the service from 9:30 to 11am.
