PAULA DAILEY Obituary

PAULA BALLO DAILEY
After a brave fight against cancer, Paula Ballo Dailey passed away on November 30, 2016. An artist and compassionate soul, she opened her heart and her homes in Arlington and Woodstock, Virginia to make others feel genuinely welcomed. She took great joy and pride in her family, tirelessly and selflessly supporting them in their endeavors. Paula began her art career in Los Angeles in the 1970's, where she participated in the vibrant artistic community of the period. She attended Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles and received her BFA degree from the California Institute of the Arts. During this time, she worked extensively in watercolors, painting, photography, and assemblage, frequently combined with haiku-like poetry. She exhibited frequently in Los Angeles during the 1970's and worked at the Los Angeles Times as a staff artist and illustrator. Upon moving to Washington, DC in 1988, she became a picture editor for the Smithsonian Institute Press and later for National Geographic Society. She continued her versatile artistic practice and maintained a studio in Woodstock, Virginia. Friends are invited to pay tribute to her and the deeply personal works at an exhibition of her newest series, "Innocence and Truth," opening at Monroe Street Market Art Walk on December 10.  Paula is survived by her husband, Brian Dailey; son, James and daughter-in-law, Kjirsten and her two beloved grandchildren, Ezra and Ivan. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 811 Cameron Street, Alexandria Virginia, 22314. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the: Millennium Arts Salon, 1213 Girard Street, NW, Washington, DC 20009.www.novacremate.com

With deepest sympathy - Rest In Peace Cousin Paula. Though we did not keep in close contact throughout the years Paula reminds me of the simpler times of my youth. My thoughts are with you at this time. Cousin Mark.
