Mrs. Marie J. Toms

1919 - 2017

Mrs. Marie J. Toms, 97, formerly of Waynesboro, PA passed from this life Thursday, March 30, 2017 in Menno Haven Nursing Home, Chambersburg, PA where she resided for the last six years.

Born April 16, 1919, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Lena (Fogle) Doyle. Mrs. Toms was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area.

She and her husband, the late Paul F. Toms, were married January 4, 1958 in the First Christian Church of Waynesboro. Mr. Toms passed away November 23, 2007.

Mrs. Toms enjoyed staying at home with her children while they were growing up. She was a good listener who was also a quiet, lovable, and understanding mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed being a seamstress.

After her children were grown, she was employed as a seamstress for Bishop's Tailor Shop, Waynesboro as well as Gibble's Upholstery, Waynesboro for many years.

Mrs. Toms is survived by three children, Bernard L. Snodderly of Waynesboro,
Patricia A. Heefner of Stockton, CA, Jacqueline M. Wise of Chambersburg, PA; three grandchildren, Brett Wise, Edward Snodderly and Annette Rigato; six great-grandchildren, Tara, Logan, Leigh, Heather, Max, and Ryan; three sisters, Betty Monn of Waynesboro, Phyllis Bonebrake of Waynesboro, Pauline Buhrman of West Virginia; two brothers, Ed Doyle of Greencastle, PA and John Doyle of Waynesboro; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by two grandchildren, Wendy Schuchman and Jay Heefner; one brother, Walter Doyle; and one sister, Kathryn Cook.

A memorial service will be held at 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 4, 2017 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, PA with Pastor John Weber officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, Tuesday evening, in the funeral home.
