JANE LIANG Obituary

LIANG Jane Chin Liang (1925 - 2020) Jane Chin Liang, age 95, formerly of Silver Spring, MD passed away peacefully on Monday, December 7, 2020 in San Jose, CA. Jane was born in Boston, MA to Chin See Too Shee and Chin Yee Yook Kee. A bright student, she graduated from high school as salutatorian while working at the family laundry business after school with her six siblings. She went on to Burdette College in Boston and earned an Associate Degree. Soon after, she met her future husband, Stephen T.W. Liang, at a dance at MIT where he was a graduate student. They were married in 1947 in Boston. Stephen was a recipient of a scholarship exchange program between the US Navy and the Chinese Navy. When he completed his studies, he was ordered to return to China to serve as an active-duty Naval officer. Jane accompanied him and they lived in Shanghai for two years. Because of the Communist insurrection, Jane returned alone to Boston on an American hospital ship to avoid the hazards of war and give birth to her first child. Her husband was able to return to the United States in 1950 and later became a naturalized citizen. They lived in New York for 9 years before moving to Maryland where he designed ships and weapons systems for the U.S. Navy at the David Taylor Model Basin in Bethesda. Jane was a mother and homemaker for 15 years before returning to work to help with college tuitions for her two daughters. She served as payroll administrator at Montgomery College, Rockville, MD, for many years. In retirement, Jane and her husband moved to Leisure World in Silver Spring, MD. Jane enjoyed being a part of the community and was the founder of the Chinese Club and a faithful member of the Inter-Faith Chapel. She was a talented artist in oil painting and a skilled water colorist in the traditional Chinese style. She was affectionately nicknamed "AJ" for Aunt Jane, by her large extended family. Jane is survived by her daughters Dr. Louise L. Liang (Dr. Richard Stiles) of Issaquah, WA and CJ Liang (Bill Palley) of San Jose, CA; grandchildren Margot Liang Stiles (David Aries) of Kensington, MD, Ethan Liang Stiles (Yumi Huh) of Issaquah, WA, and Nick Kwok of Los Angeles, CA; and her great-grandson, Oliver Stiles. She is also survived by her siblings Emma Chin of Newcastle, WA, Allan Chin of Palo Alto, CA, Maylene D. Wong of Sacramento, CA, and Harry Chin of Needham Heights, MA. She is pre-deceased by husband Stephen, older sister Anne and younger brother Robert.
