Bert Marcus King

Bert King, 77, of Chevy Chase, MD passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on March 17 from complications of Parkinson's Disease. He valiantly fought the disease for 25 years with the support of family, friends, therapists, trainers and wonderful caregivers.
Born in Brooklyn, his family moved to Eastchester, NY where Bert grew up. He attended American University (BA, Political Science) and U. of Penn (MA, Urban Planning). Bert was passionate about public housing. After several years at HUD and MD Department of Housing and Community Development, Bert started his own company, King Mortgage Corporation. He worked with developers and HUD to finance multifamily housing and nursing homes in Maryland and New York.
Bert was active in his synagogue and served on the Board of the Parkinson's Foundation of the National Capital Area (PFNCA). He loved to tinker with home projects, gardening, and especially baking, and he was passionate about classic sports cars.
Bert is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Susan, daughter Rachel Gerstein (Jon), son Jacob, and brother David (Eunice), grandsons Ari and Zachary Gerstein, as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family.
The funeral will take place at 1pm on Thursday, March 19 at Congregation Beth El in Bethesda with commital service following at Garden of Remembrance in Clarksburg, MD at 3pm.
Shiva will be observed on Thursday from 7-9 pm at Beth El.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to PFNCA, Congregation Beth El, or Montgomery Hospice.
