John R. Houseman

1952 - 2017

RUSHFORD - John R. Houseman, 65, of Rushford N.Y./ Estero, Fla., passed away on May 19, 2017 at his home in Estero, Fla. He was born on March 29, 1952 in Medina, N.Y., to Roger and Marion Houseman.

John was a graduate of Williamsville High School and graduated from Alfred University in 1974 with a degree in business. He later completed his Masters degree at St. Bonaventure in Business Administration.

John was employed by Dresser-Rand for 36 years in the accounting department. Upon retirement he moved to Rushford Lake, N.Y., and Estero, Fla.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Fran; two daughters, Allison and Taylor; two sons-in-law, Jeremy and Eric; two awesome grandsons, Liam and Bennett; one brother, Scott; and two sisters, Terrie and Jill.

While residing in Scio and Wellsville, John was a Charter member of the Scio Lions Club, where he enjoyed participating in the numerous community service projects. John was also an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry and was the church treasurer.

John especially enjoyed watching his daughters compete in many swimming competitions both at the high school and college level. Upon retirement he moved to Rushford Lake where he enjoyed the serene setting that lake life affords. He loved participating in water sports, fishing and cruising around the beautiful waters of Rushford Lake. During the winter months he resided in Estero, Fla., where he enjoyed the abundant sunshine. Rounds of golf and tennis matches were often on the agenda. While in Estero, he enjoyed being a member of the "Volunteer's Organization" and looked forward to participating in the many improvement projects that made his community of Country Creek so beautiful. John also served as a treasurer of the HOA1 Homeowners Organization. John had a wonderful sense of humor and will be remembered for his many practical jokes. He loved his family and friends and was very proud of their accomplishments. His only regret is that he ran out of time. He was a very brave man who fought a very long battle and in the end found "peace and comfort!"

Body type RR: A memorial service is planned at St. John's Episcopal Church in Wellsville on July 1, 2017 at 3 p.m. A reception will be held at L'Italia restaurant in Wellsville immediately following. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to contribute and his memory can make a donation to:
