Sherman Wapato Obituary
He was an enrolled member of the Colville Confederated Tribes. He had been a longtime Los Angeles police lieutenant and later worked for a variety of agencies and commissions to promote tribal rights, including the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission.
Survivors include his wife, Gay Kingman of Rapid City, S.D.; his children, Stephen Timothy Wapato of Wenatchee, and KeAna Wapato Conrad and Theresa Wapato Borgia, both of Southern California, and Charles Robertson and Vernon Robertson, both of Spokane; and his brothers, Paul G. Wapato Jr. of Spokane, Titus R. Wapato of Santa Monica, Calif., and James W. Wapato of Bouse, Ariz.
A prayer service and wake will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Mother Butler Center in Rapid City. A Mass will be celebrated and burial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the center. Father Paul Sneve and Chief Arvil Looking Horse will preside for the wake and Mass services.
Arrangements are by Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, Rapid City.
