Ramu Kannan Obituary

Ramu Kannan, beloved father, husband, brother, uncle and friend, passed away tragically and unexpectedly, at age 58, on June 22, 2020. At the time of his passing, Ramu was serving as Humanas Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. He loved cheering for the Boston Red Sox. Born in Mumbai, India, Ramu emigrated to the United States in 1986, and called many places home, including Acton, MA. Ramu will be remembered as the proud father of Meghna and Simran, caring husband to Kavita, the son of the late Kalki and Lakshmi Kannan, the loving youngest brother of Indu Krishnan (Mumbai, India) and Srinivasan Kannan (Dubai, UAE), uncle to his nieces, nephew, and grand nieces, and a devoted, caring friend to many. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to NYC Health and Hospitals Covid-19 relief effort (https://nychhc.networkforgood.com/)."

Ramu was one of the most gentle souls I ever met in my life. He always had a very charismatic smile on his face and a very soothing demeanor. I always admired how calm he always remained under the most demanding work schedules. Ramu will always remain in our memories. He will be an inspiration to all on how to be a great leader and be a truly remarkable human being at the same time.

RIP Ramu - you will be deeply missed.

Ramu was about living life to the fullest! My fondest memory was my first time meeting him when we invited him out to watch my friends coverband playing classic rock music at a local bar. He was having a blast requesting all of his favorite classic rock songs. I told him that my friend had trouble playing Grateful Dead which led Ramu to request that as a fun way to joke around I will always remember his smiling face and generosity whenever we met up. Long live Ramu ! We love you

I'd only known Ramu Kannan for a few years but it hurts to lose him. He was a co-worker of my husband (Frank Illuzzi) at CityMD, and Frank wanted to take a trip to London with him. Generally being up for anything, I said yes, despite never having met the guy, and in the summer of 2016, we took a trip to meet up with Ramu. We visited pubs, met up with some of his friends (and some of our friends and one of my cousins, so long as we were over there), took a boat to Greenwich so we could visit the prime meridian, ate well, drank Auchentoshan, stayed up late each night and got to know the staff at the hotel bar, visited the British Museum, purchased the new Harry Potter screenplay (Ramu carried the hardcover around with him and read it while Frank and I were doing tourist-y things), checked out the Churchill War Rooms, purchased expensive chocolates at Harrods (Patchi, from Lebanon--quite good), and took a train to and from Paris in one day--just because we could. We had champagne at the Eiffel Tower and that is how I'll remember Ramu--enjoying the sunshine, the drinks, and the view, and having a good time. You'll be missed, Ramu--I always thought we would have more time for another trip. He always spoke so fondly of his daughters--so very proud of his girls. My sympathies to his family and all those who loved him...he was a unique and generous person with a gift for friendship, and he will be missed by many.

Ramu was an inspiring leader and a great friend. He had a great sense of humor and an innate ability to make each person he met feel as though they were the most important person he would talk to that day. His Humana family will miss him very, very much.

Ramu was a determined, focused and value driven individual. Coming from a middle class background, he had those traits that I saw in my father of cultivating a wide friendship network, very giving, warmth and love. From not being very athletic in his younger days, he swung to the other end of health by grooming himself to participate in marathons and other challenging events. A bright student, a good teacher, an affectionate father and uncle/grand uncle, a brilliant professional, he was at a stage in his life, where he had achieved all that he aspired for. The greatest event in his life, that of giving away his daughter in marriage, was round the corner and providence snatched him away. Though, we siblings were away, geographically, we did not resort to social media to be in touch. When we met, it was all warmth and happiness. We, Indu (sister) and I, Raju are still unable to come to terms of his not being around. I wish and pray, we get to reunite in a different life, as siblings once again. Love you brother.
