Louis Markos Obituary

Louis G. Markos of Ipswich, 87, passed away on the evening of Dec. 13, 2016, in his own home, peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Ipswich on May 27, 1929, Louis was the husband of Tanya (Vlahos) Markos and son of the late George J. Markos and Smaragda Markos. He led a life of service and leadership, both in public and in private. After serving in the Air Force during the Korean War, he and his brother, Yogi, joined their father in developing the banana ripening and distribution company, Yell-O-Glow Corporation. He worked for many years as a leader at the company and a mentor to sons and nephews who worked in the family business. Louis served in many organizations including the Hellenic Men's Club, AHEPA, Shriners, Masons, Logganiko Society, and Assumption of the Virgin Mary Church where he served on the council. He was an avid boater, a lover of history and poetry, but most important to him was his family. His unconditional love was felt by his entire family as he put them first time and time again, up until his last day. He is survived by, in addition to his wife Tanya, his son George L. Markos and wife Connie Markos; son Constantine (Charlie) L. Mar kos and wife Helen Markos; sisters, Ethel Campbell and Eleanor Makris; and grandchild ren, Tatiana, Elias, Mary, Tanya, and Louis Markos. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nep hews. He was pre- deceased by his brothers; John G. "Yogi" Markos, William G. Markos and sisters; Pat Zaharis, Christine Galanis and Mary Koshivas. Visiting hours will be Friday, Dec. 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Morris Funeral Home, 45 North Main St., Ipswich. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. A funeral service will be held Saturday, Dec. 17, at 10 a.m. at the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 8 Lafayette Road, Ipswich. Burial will follow, with military honors, in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Louis' name to the Greek Orthodox Church of Ipswich, P.O. Box 6, Ipswich, MA 01938.
