Virginia Kimball Obituary

Virginia Marie Kimball, 79 of Westford, passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on the evening of July 18, 2019. Ginny was born on June 28, 1940 to Bethany June Strong and John Donovan Strong in Los Angeles, CA. Ginny is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dean, and nine children: Cheryl Kimball (and husband Robert Keegan), Laurence Kimball, Lucia Kimball (and husband Peter Kimball), Mary Lou Brown (and husband Shawn Brown), Thomas Kimball, Maura Lemon (and husband Craig Lemon), Elizabeth Kimball, John Kimball and Katrina Lackner (and husband John Lackner), as well as other loving family. Ginny was especially proud of her 18 grandchildren: Nicole and Kimberly St. Onge, Brad Kimball, Tyler, Daniel and Jack Brown, Brittany, Christopher, James, Molly, Caitlin, and Annabelle Kimball, Andrew Lemon, Juli Kimball, Victoria and Nikos Yunggebauer and Claire and Ethan Lackner. Ginny was months away from being a great-grandmother. She shared her zealous approach to life with many. She was often found fishing, swimming, cooking, sewing or sledding in her slippers with her grandchildren. While raising her family, Ginny was busy as the editor of the Westford Eagle, and was active in the Westford Historical Society. She was later the editor of the Religious News section of the Lowell Sun. During these years, she mentored many students, writers and young mothers as a La Leche League leader. Ginny was an accomplished writer of poetry, plays, academic works, and Christmas cards. A teacher by profession, she was proud of her life's work as a biblical scholar, educator, wife, mother and grandmother. She held a doctorate in Sacred Theology, a license in Sacred Theology, and a Master's Degree from Andover Newton Theological School. Ginny was a member of the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell, MA for many years and enjo- yed and appreciated the wonderful fellowship of the congregation, where she was highly involved. She was the president of the Ecumenical Society of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the United States and a past president of the Mariological Society of America. Ginny lived a life in search of the Truth, and was inspired by the model of the Virgin Mary. She wrote, "It was Mary as birth-giver, nurturer, and intercessor who drew people to strength in faith" Family and friends can gather to honor and remember Ginny for a period of visitation on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King Street, Littleton from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Her Funeral service will be held at the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 25 Father John Sarantos Way, Lowell, on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Westford.

Gino and I just learned of Ginny's death. To late to attend her wake and funeral. We remember her fondly. She was such a down to earth person. I will always remember the time she was to appear on national television and they wanted to send her to makeup to glamorize her. She turned them down flat. She said that this was the way God made her and that was that. Her intelligence was unmatched when it came to the Virgin Mary, we are sure she is enjoying talking to Mary now. Please accept out heart felt sympathy. She was one of a kind and will be missed.

I found out about her passing this evening, and my heart ached. Ginnie was one of a kind. She lived the gospel preaches of love. I first met her in1980 through the Laleche League, helping me with my newborn baby.
As it turned out we were both reporters her with the Westford Easle, me with the Lowell Sun, where she eventuàlily joined me.
Her friendship over the years was one of the treasures of my life. She was there for me to help with my single parenting, held my hand though my cancer years, driving me to Boston for treat.
She was always there for me. Atfor a whole lot of others all at the same time. She was full of boundless energy and love. And she could always be depended on.
While she has left us all heartbroken, she is now in heaven with God.
My deepest condolences to the large family she left behind.

Ginny was a dedicated correspondent for The Sun in my earlier days as a copy editor, but more than anything she was a good person who exuded kindness, compassion and caring for those not only in her life but all of whom she wrote.

I worked many late Tuesday nights with Ginny 40 years ago when she edited the Westford Eagle and I edited the Littleton Independent. Later at the Sun, she helped with the religion page every Saturday and I worked in lifestyle. She was an amazing person...talented, feisty, dedicated and fun...I still marvel at how she accomplished so much while raising her large, talented family...a true wonder woman...may she rest in peace. Ginnie was (and is!) a dear friend and I owe her a great debt of gratitude for both her personal kindness and her professional support. We edited two books and worked closely together as president (Ginnie) and vice president (me) of the ESBVM USA for more than a decade. Ginnie's nurturing spirit will be greatly missed, but I take solace in the fact of her great devotion to Our Lady and her Divine Son, both whom anxiously await the chance to fold their children into their arms, embracing them for all eternity.

Virginia helped me in so many ways. She always had time to answer my theological questions, recommend a good book on our faith, or just help me in my personal life. She was an amazing, loving, truly kindhearted person and I will miss her dearly. I wish I could be there to say goodbye but my travels prevent me from doing so. May God grant you comfort in knowing she is now at rest and may her memory be eternal.

I am overwhelmed with sadness by the passing of my dear friend Virginia. The obituary mentions Virginia mentoring students. Well, I consider myself one of those students. I became close friends with Virginia when we took on the Bookstore Ministry about 9 years ago. Both of us thought it was a Ministry worth doing, but neither of us wanted to do it alone. So we volunteered together.

I was born into the Greek Orthodox faith and baptized at the Transfiguration in 1950. I always took Orthodoxy for granted. It is Virginia who taught me what a treasure Orthodoxy is, and she taught me SO much about our Faith.

The obituary mentions how she was inspired by the Virgin Mary. I would say she was an EXPERT on the Virgin Mary. The Vatican recognized that too. I was in awe when Virginia shared with me how she was invited to speak there on the Virgin Mary. She shared a photo with me of her shaking hands with the Pope during that conference.

We will sorely miss Virginia. May her memory be eternal.

A Mother's love will last forever in your heart. She will never be far away. Remember the joyful times you had with her and the little things she use to say to you. Eternal rest grant unto her o Lord and let the perpetual light shin upon her.

Virginia was a wonderful, loving person and so knowledgeable. I love her. We missed her & Dean when they were not at Bible Study. She will be missed dearly. Thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I will be away. I am so very sorry I cannot attend.

My heart is broken by the loss of my dearest friend, Ginnie Kimball. There was never a kinder, more generous, supportive and loving friend than she. I can't imagine a world without her in it, but she has moved on to the heavenly realm, where her soul will find joy and peace in God's embrace. My deepest sympathies go out to her husband, her children, and grandchildren. Her family meant the world to her. I know she meant the world to them, as she did to me. God bless you, Ginnie. I love you, Ginnie!
