Francis Messina Obituary

Francis X. Messina, Jr. "Frankie" of Braintree and Hingham, passed away suddenly on February 21, 2021, at the age of 61. Loving son of the late Francis X Messina and Beverly Ann (Brayton) Messina. Frankie was born and raised in Braintree, graduating from Braintree High School, Class of 1978. A talented hockey player and a member of both youth hockey and the Braintree High School Hockey team, Frankie often spoke of his fond memories of his high school years, particularly playing at The Boston Garden with his hockey team in 1978. Frankie worked at F.X. Messina Enterprises every summer when he was young. He learned to drive all of the trucks and loved operating the equipment on job sites. He was one of few that could maneuver an 18-wheel truck around the famous Braintree Five Corners. Frankie attended the military academy of Norwich University and graduated in 1982. After college he worked his way up in the family company to become the Vice President. His children were his greatest source of pride. He was the most loving and devoted Dad to Francis X. Messina III of Hingham, Michael A. Messina of New York City, and Jacqueline T. Messina of Newburyport, who he lovingly referred to as Dolly. Former husband to Marion T. Messina of Hingham. All that knew Frankie knew how proud he was of his children. When his sons were young, he loved coaching them in hockey, baseball and basketball. Frankie will be remembered by many coaches and players in Hingham for his commitment to Hingham Youth Hockey from 1994-2001. He beamed when he was with his son Frankie; he was so proud to be with him whether it was working together at Messina Enterprises or out to dinner at Frankies favorite restaurant, Alba. He was honored that his son Michael served in the Unites States Navy and was eager to fly out to San Diego in 2013 at Christmas to take Michael and all his fellow friends who were stationed in San Diego to Christmas dinner. Christmas was his favorite time of the year watching his daughter Jacqueline perform in the Boston Ballet's Nutcracker year after year. He was there every step of the way bringing her in and out of Boston for shows and rehearsals and inviting family and friends to come to watch the shows with their family. Frankie loved telling everyone, "my daughter is just the most beautiful dancer." Frankie also loved watching and playing golf. He was a member of Wollaston Golf Club in Milton and set his sights on the treasured Fallon Cup when he became a member and in 1993, he won the Fallon Cup, a memory that carries stories he has shared with his family and friends with so much joy. Frankie was the most generous and caring person to all. He leaves his devoted sisters, Christine Messina, Marisa ODwyer and her husband William ODwyer, Beverly Fernald, and her husband Joseph Fernald all of Braintree along with his nephews and nieces, Thomas Keefe Jr., Shannon Chaplain, Andrew Rice, Jr., Christine Rice, William ODwyer, Jr., Ryan ODwyer, Randy ODwyer, Danielle ODwyer, Joseph Fernald, Jr., Jaimee Fernald, Sean Fernald and the late Michael Fernald. Words cannot begin to express how much he was loved and will be missed. In keeping with the Covid-19 guidelines, which include face coverings, social distancing and wait times in line due to temporary limited capacity, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, March 1st from 3:00 | 6:00 PM in the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree. A Private Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, March 2nd in St. Clare Church, Braintree. Burial will follow in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. To Chrissy, Marisa and Beverly,,
My sincerest condolences for the loss of your beloved brother Frank Jr. A prolific and befitting obituary. When I worked at M.E. Frank was always kindhearted. Once he called me in his office to help him with a letter. He had a putting green. Frank implored me to give it a try. I sunk that ball on my first try. We laughed. May Frank rest in peace knowing he was loved and revered. I am so sorry for your loss.
