Sara Hale Obituary

Sara Whitaker Hale, died on September 27, 2011 at the Elizabeth Evarts de Rham Hospice Home in Cambridge, MA. She was born in Englewood, New Jersey on October 14, 1932 to Marie Louise Whitaker, a pianist and homemaker, and Morris Mortimer Whitaker, a naval architect. Sara spent her early years at the Clarkstown Country Club, a communal yoga colony in Nyack, NY of which her parents were original members. After her fathers death in 1944, Sara and her mother moved to Tucson, AZ, where she met and married the linguist Kenneth Locke Hale. Ken's work in linguistics carried them all over the world including Australia, Central America and Europe. In 1967, Sara and Ken moved to Lexington, MA with their sons Whitaker and Ian. Twin boys, Caleb and Ezra, were born in 1970. Sara graduated from Middlesex Community College as an RN in 1979, and worked as a psychiatric nurse until her retirement. Sara was a talented seamstress, knitter, quilter, writer, and keeper of the family history. She is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth and son Ian. She is survived by three children: Whitaker Hale of Arlington, Caleb (Anita) Hale of Arlington, and Ezra (Kristin) Hale of Belmont; and three grandchildren: Harriet, Kenneth, and Samantha. A memorial for Sara Hale will be held at the National Heritage Museum in Lexington, MA, on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 10am. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Elizabeth Evarts de Rham Hospice Home c/o VNA Care Network & Hospice, Development Office, 5 Federal St., Danvers, MA 01923.

I want to offer condolences to you and your family for your loss. Death is a very a sad time, especially when we lose someone we love. It is so encouraging to know that God promises the Earth will be restored and we will be reunited with our deceased loved ones again. May the peace from our heavenly father comfort you at this time.
