Michael Hoier Obituary
Wisconsin Rapids - Michael "Mike" D. Hoier, age 65, of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at his residence.
Memorial services for Mike will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, June 29, 2018 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday at the church from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM. Rev. Dr. Carlton Anderson will officiate the service.
Mike was born on September 15, 1953 in Wisconsin and attended Regis High School in Eau Claire. He eventually went on to technical school to study communications. He married Debra J. Hahn in 2008 in Pinellas County, Florida. Mike worked as a security guard for many years, most recently for Reedsburg Hospital in Reedsburg, Wisconsin. He also served as a dispatcher for the Grand Rapids Fire Department and a member of the Grand Rapids Police Auxilliary for the last ten years.
Mike enjoyed running the Audio/Visual program at St. Luke's Church over the past five years, was an amateur radio operator and longtime member of ARES, going by the name KA9PSL. He was a member of the Wood County Rifle Club, assisted Debra with the computer and IT work at the Aquarium Pet Shop in Wisconsin Rapids and enjoyed all of the different pets he had at his home.
Mike is survived by his wife Debra, step-daughter Sarajean Brown and her daughter Vada Laskowski. He is also survived by his sister through adoption Deb (Gary) Stone.
Mike is preceded in death by both of his adoptive parents.
Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids is assisting the family with arrangements.

I knew Mike through the Volunteer Center and it's been such a blessing to know him. He was very passionate about using his talents through volunteering. He was on our Disaster Volunteer Reception Center team and helped with communications during our Homeless Point In Time Counts. He touched many lives and will be truly missed.

Mike and I had been Good Friends and Ham Radio operators for years. I called KA9PSL several times on the area ham repeater recently while driving north without a response. His obituary was an unpleasant surprise. Debra, I will miss Him.
