Wendy Smeltzer Obituary

Wendy L. Smeltzer

Hallam - Wendy L. Smeltzer, 67, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. A lifelong resident of Wrightsville, Wendy was born on May 22, 1950. She was the daughter of the late William E. "Bill" Smeltzer and Lucy Corenna (Young) Smeltzer.

Wendy was a 1968 graduate of Eastern York High School. She retired from Armstrong World Industries, where she was employed at the Marietta Ceiling Plant. Wendy was Baptized in Trinity Lutheran Church, Wrightsville. Known as one of the "original hippies" by friends and family, Wendy loved flower gardening. She also enjoyed shopping, Zumba, cruises, the beach, visiting her sister and her husband, going out to eat with her friends, and spending time on Facebook.

Wendy is survived by her sister, Penny L. (Smeltzer) Spencer, and her husband, Steve of Charleston, SC; and her beloved and faithful companion, her dog, "Willie".

Wendy's family would like to thank her dear friends, Patty, Devy, Sharon, Wanda, Margie, and Ron for their faithful support and transportation to the many doctor's appointments and hospital stays, during her courageous battle with cancer.

A graveside service to celebrate Wendy's life will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 11 a.m. in Fairview Cemetery, 701 Hellam St., Wrightsville, with her dear friend, the Rev. Barbara A. Caruana, officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at a reception held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 243 Hellam St., Wrightsville.

To honor Wendy's love of flowers and hippie spirit, those who wish are encouraged to send flowers. Please ask florist to deliver flowers to the Etzweiler Funeral Home, 700 Hellam St., Wrightsville, by 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2018.

Wendy attended my Zumba classes from time to time and always came to any fund raising events I held..especially my Party in Pink events that were for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Most of the local instructors knew her because she would visit our classes and seemed to like them all equally. I didn't know her well, but she definitely made a lasting impression on me and I'll never forget her smile. She was such a fighter with a positive attitude that I thought she was going to beat cancer! I didn't realize she was failing until it was too late. I attended her funeral today and didn't have a chance to express my condolences to her sister and brother in law, but I truly am sad at her passing. Dance on, Wendy!
