My heart and Mary's go out to all the Murphy clan! Your patriarch has gone home to his God--the only reason he would leave all of you whom he loved so dearly! But what a legacy he leaves behind him in all of you, and what a witness to the love that binds a family and shines for all the world to see! Here was a good and gentle man who preached a powerhouse of a Gospel simply by living a life of loving, caring, helping, encouraging, and affirming, carrying forward the message of Jesus in the humble, unassuming way that was a core trait of Ken's great love for God.
I met and came to know Ken through Cursillo, and I had the great privilege of seeing him often, on a monthly basis, for the past 15 years or more. To know Ken Murphy was to love him, because he was pure, sweet, simple, humble, kind, and caring to everyone he met: that was the only way he knew how to live. And, of course, he was Irish, too, which always elevates everything a notch or two, in a most charming way.
My fondest memory of Ken will be how excited he was to always be able to tell me there was a man at the Roseville Public Library who looked exactly like me, and that he was someday going to bring me a photo of him to show me that he was not imagining this; he never did, which actually was better, because the beauty of it was that it touched me deeply that he would even think of me in so sweet a way and care to share his story and his excitement with me whenever we were together!
And it touched me deeply that Ken volunteered to update and disseminate the Cursillo Prayer List to everyone who signed up for it. He was a man of deep faith, and he knew that the greatest good we can do for one another is pray for each other. He took that responsibility very seriously and very compassionately, and he managed it until he no longer could, God's faithful servant until this horrible disease rendered him unable to continue with it--and I will always remember with goosebumps how reluctantly he surrendered this apostalate once he realized he could no longer manage it!
A man of faith, but in oh-so-sweet and simple a way, disarmingly, yet inspirationally, a pure leader, a devoted patriarch, a loving and faithful husband, and a man of God.
Take heart, Murphy Family: Ken transmitted his core values and unshakable faith to all of you, and he will live on forever in all of you, until that great day when you are all reunited in Heaven!
May God richly bless all of you for your unwavering support, abiding love, profound respect, and family unity throughout Ken's final months: because of you, he left this world with dignity and the sure knowledge of your love! What a marvelous testimony to the strong, loving family that you are!
As Ken did, may we all live in the Lord, so that we may die in the Lord.
Peace.

I would like to send my sincere condolences and sympathies to the family. Ken and I worked together over 50 years ago at the Service Fire Insurance Company. He always had such a pleasant outlook on life. I know that he will be greatly missed.

It has been a hard thing to grasp, the passing of my grandpa. He was a wonderful man, one that always had a smile on his face even while he struggled with his disease. I always admired his and my dad's relationship, you don't see many like their's anymore. I only hope mine can continue with my dad in the same way. I am happy Grandpa will not suffer anymore and is in a better place. Our family has always been close and I know that our closeness and strength will allow everyone to get through this hard time in peace and find happiness.

Betty, Kevin & Maureen and all of Ken's family,
We have been praying for Ken and all of you for quite some time. Although it is difficult to loose someone you love, we rejoice with you in knowing Ken is now with Jesus....he has made it home!! God is good!! We knew Ken mostly through Cursillo and of course through Kevin and his family. He was a wonderful, warm, gentle man and he deserves his heavenly reward!
God bless you all as you grieve his death and celebrate his life.
DeColores!
