Darla Renee Smith

Darla Renee Smith, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 60 in her home city of Ocala, Florida, on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. Darla was a woman defined by her big personality, outgoing spirit, and nurturing heart. She was the devoted caretaker of her family and was affectionately known as "everyone's grandma" to countless children she loved. She had an unparalleled gift for making people laugh, and her presence lit up every room. Darla loved all children and was a wonderful friend and neighbor to her community. A proud graduate of Vanguard High School in Ocala, Darla dedicated her life to the people and causes she held dear. Her deepest passions were her faith and her church community. She was an active and engaged worker at Wear Gloves Outreach, where she tirelessly served those in need. In her personal time, Darla found joy in the simple, beautiful things in life. She loved coloring, reading, and fishing. She was a collector of inspirational quotes and found great comfort in the companionship of her beloved pets. Darla was preceded in death by her loving mother, Betty Ruth Sanchez, and her dear son, James Derek Smith. She is survived by her devoted sons, Joseph Dustin Smith and Jonathon Daniel Smith (Christine); her treasured grandchildren, Alex, Jaylah, Dillion, Julius, Jordan, Karma, and Jaxson; and her great-grandchild, Melani. She also leaves behind her brothers, Bryant Smith and Damon Smith; her niece, Bree Smith; and a large extended family, including her uncle Archie Oliver Sheffield, aunt Colleen Greene, and aunt Geneva Simmons, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Service Information A Celebration of Life will be held at Noon on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Heritage Baptist Church, 642 NE 20th St, Ocala, FL 34470.
