Dorothy Montgomery Obituary
Dorothy Jean Montgomery was born on May 7, 1945, and passed away on March 28, 2026.
Dorothy got her wish on Saturday to be able to pass away peacefully at home, thanks to her dedicated caregivers from HomeInstead and her devoted friend Susan Gregory.
She is survived by her cherished nephews and nieces Dennis Folkerts (Janet, Robert Folkerts (Carol and Micael Folkerts (Sherry), her Godson Anthony Creci and her adopted family Carlotta Clarke and Betsy Bomboy along with her many wonderful and special friends.
Dorothy is predeceased by her beloved husband of 48 years Gerald W. (Jerry) Montgomery.
Dorothy spent her early years in Illinois and Ohio and graduated from Lemont Township HS class of 1964. Before moving to Ocala, Dorothy met Jerry during her brief employment at Ball Seed and became a loving and devoted wife. Dorothy was a lifelong avid and competitive horse woman as well as a proud member of both the Marion County Horseman's Association and the Sun County Trailblazers. Dorothy loved to show and trail ride and never let her rheumatoid arthritis hold her back. She couldn't pass up a horsey yard sale or auction with her many friends and would always find a way to get the best deal, something she learned at a young age from her father. Dorothy loved spending time with her friends, and she dearly loved her 30 year old Appaloosa mare Goldie and her 17 year old chihuahua Mickey who were with her until the end. Dorothy was a strong and amazing women who will be long missed and always remembered.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala, FL 34470 on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at 11:00 am and will be officiated by her friend Billy Gecks.
Dorothy and Jerry will then be interred together at their family plot in Willow Springs, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite horse or animal rescue in Dorothy's name.
