Duane Ulery Obituary
Duane Paul Ulery, 82, a child of God, passed away October 9, 2025, in Ocala, Florida. He was born in Warren, Ohio to Bertrand (Bud) and Cecilia (DaBelko) Ulery on May 6, 1943. Duane grew up in Warren and attended Warren city schools, graduating from Warren Harding High School in 1961. He went on to receive a BA degree from Youngstown State University, and then received his master's degree from Westminster College, New Wilmington, PA.
Duane retired after teaching Social Studies for 30 years. He was the recipient of a scholarship to the EAST WEST center, University of Hawaii. He also received the George Washington medal of honor from the Freedom Foundation of Valley Forge, PA. He moved to Ocala in 2009.
Duane was a devout Catholic his entire life. He worked at St. James Catholic Church in Warren, Ohio for 7 years, serving as a pastoral assistant. He also was on the Youngstown Diocesan Council for 3 years. was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Dominican Sisters of Peace, O.P.A.
Duane was an avid reader. He was an alumnus of the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle and the Guild of Seven Seals at the Chautauqua Institute in New York.
He was a runner and ran the Marine Corps marathon in Washington DC at the age of 40. He enjoyed playing golf and ping pong (Trumbull County Champion). He was a loyal Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Indians fan. He loved gardening and listening to music. He supported St. Judes, The Eva Rose Foundation, St. Joseph's Indian School in South Dakota and many police and fire fighter organizations.
Duane is survived by his wife, Janet (Stassinis) of 40 years, his 5 children, James Massacci, Jr., Jessica Beauchamp (Angel), Jacqueline Massacci, Stacey Ulery Chakos, and Duane Ulery Ferencz. He was "D'zedo" to his 8 grandchildren, Darian Beauchamp, Mia Zigerelli, Audrey Chakos, George Chakos, Bryan Maldonado, Giovani Beauchamp, Karlini Beauchamp, Julia Chakos and John Chakos. He is also survived by one brother, Wayne F. Ulery (Patty) of Sarasota, FL and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
Family and friends will gather to honor Duane at Hiers Baxley Funeral Services, 9695 SW 110th Street, Ocala, FL, on Sunday, October 26, 2025, from 3 to 6 PM. Duane's funeral mass will be celebrated at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 6455 SW Highway 200 in Ocala on Monday, October 27, 2025, at 8:30 AM. Mass will also be celebrated for Duane in Warren, Ohio at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to The Eva Rose Foundation would be appreciated.
