John Began

John R. Began 89, of The Villages, Florida passed away on March 2nd after a short Illness. John was born in Gastonia, NC on March 3rd, 1935 to Edward and Jackie Began. He attended Catholic High School in Virginia Beach and was a graduate Of the University of Dayton, Ohio. He was employed by the Diamond Department Store and owner of Began-Fulwider Shoes in Charleston West Virginia. He was an avid runner who competed in the New York Marathon and Charleston WV Distance Run which one year he won his age division. He a loyal WVU football and basketball fan who enjoyed watching their games. Also in his later years he enjoyed baking, traveling and his daily swims with his fellow Villagers where he met many good friends. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Supcoe (Chris), Donna Powden, Lori Burns (Dillon) and very dear friend Judy Bjerke. Grandchildren Andrew Supcoe, Stephanie Hoyer (Drew), Michael Chambers, Tara Kline (Scott) and Debbie Ann Began. Great grandchildren Brooke and Lewis. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Marilyn and daughter Deborah Surbaugh. Parents Edward and Jackie Began, sister Betty. Redmond. He is also survived by several sister in laws and their husbands along with many nieces and nephews. Per his wishes, he was cremated and a graveside service will be held at a later date at Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens, Ocala, Florida.
