Ruth Gensman Obituary

Ruth Gensman, age 87, of Dunnellon, Florida, died March 3, 2025, in Florida. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas Gensman, her parents, John G. and Lillian Dynan, brothers, William Dynan and Timothy Dynan, brother-in-law, David Swanson, and first husband, Robert Weidell. She is survived by sons, Gregory (Nancy) Kassekert and Gary (Barb) Weidell, sisters, Mary (Len) Hmel, Peggy (Jim) Erpelding, Nora Swanson, and sister-in-law, Linda Dynan. She has 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Ruth grew up in Annandale, Minnesota. She attended the College of St. Benedict, St. Joseph, MN and went on to earn a Masters of Social Work at St. Louis University, Missouri. She spent her career in Adoptions at the Minnesota Department of Human Services. Due to post-polio syndrome, a consequence of paralytic polio in 1946, Ruth retired in 1997. After marrying Tom Gensman and moving to FL in 1998, Ruth pursued her true passions: genealogy and family history, reading and art of all types. She and Tom enjoyed traveling and took many cruises. She was active in promoting pro-life causes and was devout in her Catholic faith. The family will receive friends and family for a visitation at Hiers Baxley Funeral Services Timber Ridge on Thursday, March 13, 2025, from 4-6 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be March 14 at 8:30 AM at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Ocala, FL. Interment will be at Florida National Cemetery at 12:30 PM following the church service.

Ruth was a classmate of mine in Annandale, MN. Her brother and I played saxophone together. Ruth had an infectious smile and was always positive, The photo with her obituary is 'stunning.' She was truly a special lady.

Ruth was a classmate of mine at St. Ben's - Class of 1961. I will remember her for her pleasant personality and ready smile. She accomplished much in her life despite the restraints of polio . . . . for that I admired he greatly.

My sister was a person to admire and she was a mentor for me. Someone with crippling due to polio did not stop her from learning or actually following her dreams. God have her a terrific heart and a terrific brain so she was able to overcome her handicap and do whatever she set her goals at. What a wonderful person God gave us. Love you Ruth.
